Testings on GSS (Galvanized Steel Stranded) Earth Wires

Type Tests on GSS Earth Wire

All the type tests are performed on a single strand of sampled length.

  1. Breaking load measurement,
  2. Measurement of elongation on breaking due to the ultimate tensile load,
  3. Measurement of the electrical resistance of the strand,
  4. Wrapping test,
  5. Galvanizing test,
  6. Torsion test.

Routine Tests GSS Earth Wire

  1. Checking for joints on the wires,
  2. Checking for any cuts in the wire or wire strand,
  3. Checking the correctness of the strands,
  4. Checking of the drums and tallying with the approved drum drawing or specification.

Acceptance Tests of GSS Earth Wire

  1. Visual checks for joints, etc., and that can be done by rewinding one or two drums per lot,
  2. Measurement of the diameter of steel strands,
  3. Verification of lay ratio.
  4. Breaking load test on the individual strand as well as on the complete earth wire,
  5. Elongation test on the individual strand,
  6. Wrapping test for each strand,
  7. Measurement of the DC resistance of each sampled steel strand,
  8. Galvanizing test on steel strand,
  9. Chemical analysis of the steel strand.
