EHV XLPE cable parameter calculator per IS 7098 & IS 8130. Get resistance, impedance, sheath thickness, and short-circuit ratings instantly.
Calculate all parameters for XLPE HV cables. Enter the inputs below — all construction dimensions, resistance, impedance, and short-circuit ratings are derived automatically.
The same short-circuit current is applied to both the conductor and the metallic sheath.
Know Your Cable Before You Lay It
In electrical engineering, a cable is not just a wire. It is a carefully designed system — every layer, every millimeter, every material has a reason. But calculating all those parameters by hand takes time, and one wrong figure can mean an undersized screen, an overheated sheath, or worse, a failed cable during a fault.
This tool does all that calculation for you, in seconds.
Just select your system voltage — from 11 kV all the way up to 220 kV — choose your conductor size, material, and type, pick your metallic sheath, enter the short-circuit current and fault duration, and click Calculate. That is all.
What you get back is a complete picture of the cable. The conductor resistance at 20°C and 90°C, exactly as per IS 8130. The skin effect and proximity effect factors. The AC resistance, the capacitance, the charging current, the impedance — all calculated as per IEC 60287. The XLPE insulation thickness, conductor screen and insulation screen thicknesses as per IS 7098. The inner sheath and outer sheath thicknesses from the standard tables.

For short-circuit ratings, the tool follows the adiabatic method of IEC 60949. Again, for the conductor, it checks whether your selected cross-section can survive the fault. For lead sheath cables, it calculates how much short-circuit current the lead sheath itself can carry, then sizes the copper wire screen to handle whatever is left — because both work together. For aluminum sheath cables, it applies the minimum thickness limits straight from IS 7098 Part 3 Table 6B and tells you if the standard thickness is enough or whether you need more.
No spreadsheet, no manual lookup and no guesswork.
Just enter your requirements, and the cable tells you what it needs.
