Type Tests of Capacitive Voltage Transformer (CVT)

These tests are done according to IS: 3156 (Part-1)

  1. Temperature Rise Test
  2. Lightning Impulse Test
  3. Switching Impulse Test for 420kV and above rated Transformer
  4. Power frequency withstand test in wet condition
  5. Determination of errors and accuracy classes
  6. Ferroresonance test (for CVT)
  7. Transient response test (for CVT)
  8. Verification of accuracy (for CVT)

Routine Tests

These tests are done according to IS: 3156 (Part-1)

  1. Verification of terminal marking and polarity
  2. Power frequency withstand test on primary side
  3. Power frequency withstand test on secondary side
  4. Partial discharge test for 7.2 kV PT with solid insulation PT. For oil insulated PT, potential discharge test is used for the PT above 72.5 kV transformers.
  5. Determination of errors and accuracy classes
  6. Power frequency withstand test on voltage divider (for CVT)
  7. Power frequency test on earth terminal of voltage divider
  8. Power frequency test on electromagnetic units
  9. Verification of accuracy of the electromagnetic unit
