Testing on SF6 Circuit Breaker

Type Tests of SF6 Circuit Breakers as per IS-13118:

  1. Dielectric Tests – Power frequency voltage withstand test
  2. Lightning impulse test
  3. Switching impulse test for greater than 300kV rated CB
  4. Radio Interference Voltage (RIV) test
  5. Temperature Rise Test
  6. Measurement of resistance of main circuit of the CB
  7. Short-time withstand current and peak withstand current test
  8. Mechanical and environmental tests
  9. Tightness test
  10. Electromagnetic capability test
  11. High voltage test on auxiliary and control circuit.

Routine Tests on SF6 Circuit Breaker as per IS-12729.

  1. Dielectric test on main circuit.
  2. High voltage test on auxiliary and control circuit.
  3. Measurement of resistance of main circuit.
  4. Tightness tests.
  5. Design and visual test.

Acceptance Tests on SF6 Circuit Breaker

  1. Visual check.
    • Verification of order related features.
    • Checking the identification marks, stickers, name plate and general aesthetics.
  2. Mechanical operation test.
    • 5 closing operation at 100% rated control voltage,
    • 5 opening operation at 100% rated control voltage,
    • 5 closing operation at 85% rated control voltage,
    • 5 opening operation at 70% rated control voltage,
    • 5 closing operation at 110% rated control voltage,
    • 5 opening operation at 110% rated control voltage.
  3. Measurement of operating times at 100% of rated control voltage for closing, opening and close-open operations.
  4. Gas leakage test
  5. Electrical Sequence Check
    • Checking the control circuit as per approved drawings
    • Checking the function of anti-pumping
    • Checking the function of auxiliary AC circuits,
  6. Measurement of spring charging time and motor current,
  7. 1KV for 1sec test or 2KV for 60sec test on control and auxiliary circuits of the CB,
  8. Checking and verification of operation of SF6 density monitor switch,
  9. One minute power frequency withstand test on the main circuit of CB,
  10. Closing and tripping coil resistance measurement,
  11. Contact measurement or milli-volt drop test on the main contacts of the CB during close condition.
